Description

For those (Myself included) who don’t know anything about poker, the card combination on the left is known as a “royal flush”, while those on the right are known as a “full house.”
The probability of getting a royal flush in spades is 1 in 2,598,960, and those of a full house are 1 in 694. Therefore, to get a royal flush in spades one would have to be *lucky*. (Link to site where I got the info: http://www.indepthinfo.com/probability-poker/index.shtml ).
There is other symbolism related to luck… But I’ll see if it’s clear enough for people to get. :)

I wanted this image to have a dark feel, and the sepia-like tone is on purpose.
Camera Settings: 800 ISO; 1/400sec.
Post Processing: PS Elements - levels & color; Neat Image for noise reduction.

Great backround description for this shot, especially enjoy the money "pot" with jewelry and the usual paper money. Dice caught mid toss was an interesting idea, roll a 7. The rebound of dice of table is hard to control, but if dice were more horizontal would better fit your compostion.

nice shot, wish it would be a bit sharper. the tones are good!
the seven on the dices are another symbol of luck, isn't it? :) and maybe the clock, but I'm not sure.
I myself am a pokerfan and it's right a royal flush is very VERY rare. but last time my brother got one :)
nice shot!

Nice concept....looks like you captured the dice flying!
A little more dof would be good.

@Lenn0: The number 7 is the perfect number (Biblically speaking). And the watch was kind of supposed to illustrate that luck is a matter of time or timing... but maybe that was reaching too far... :p

@Madanapale: Yep, I captured them (Dice) mid air. I had my sister drop them for me. After about 200+ shots (Over 2 days), she got a little annoyed.

I agree about the sharpness. I don't know if Neat Image smudged things a little or whether it's me... I use an AF lens... But now that I know more I kind of wish I didn't at times. Oh well. :)

Thank you all for your comments!

Interesting color tone, I agree with Madanapale about the DOF though. Great idea, nice setup, good capture of the dice.

I caught the "7" right away ont eh dice - congratulations on such an opportune capture - of course I realize it wasn't effortless.

All of the critique points have been said about this image. I have not had the patience to go through the rigors of several hundred shots for an image - this is evidence of the fact that great things can be had if one is dedicated to that end. Very nice image which fits a strong narrative theme. Great work! - jason

i think this is absolutely perfect. love the symbolism, i always appreciate an image that tells more than the obvious and allows you to dig a bit deeper. the focus on the watch is really intriguing. tone, lighting, composition etc. is all very well chosen. great work really
+10
